Expansion is speeding up, Minister of Home Affairs hears input from South West Papua and North Papua
Jakarta - The Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tiro Karnavian expressed his aspiration for the provinces in Papua to be divided into seven provinces. The last two entries are the provinces of Southwest Papua and North Papua.
"There are already two, Papua and West Papua. Now we will discuss three, Central Papua, South Papua, and Central Highlands Papua. There are other aspirations for South West Papua and North Papua," Tito told reporters, Tuesday (21/6/ 2022).
Tito said that currently the government and the Indonesian House of Representatives were discussing three provinces, namely Central Papua Province, South Papua, and Central Highlands Papua.
Tito said that he would try to ensure that the Province of Southwest Papua could also be ratified in the same National Legislation Program.
"Three of these have been implemented, one is the aspiration of Southwest Papua, we will try if we can at the right time because it must be in accordance with the budget cycle," he said.
"We will discuss it into a law of gratitude if we can hurry, because the gap is yes, the time gap is quite small," he continued.
Tito said that if it couldn't be completed in this period's Prolegnas, the Provinces of Southwest Papua and North Papua would be included in the next Prolegnas.
"For example, if there is no draft and there has been no discussion, we will discuss it in the National Legislation Program next year. Yesterday when I discussed it, Mr. governor, Mr. governor was okay with conveying that. Only a lot of messages were 'Sir, if we can we will end up with seven', the important thing is that he supports the meaning, " he added.
